My heart feels so fulfilled.

4.5 Stars. This book has finally brought me out of a horrible reading funk. I've gone through a number of "romantic suspense" novels the past two weeks - from indie authors to Nora Roberts - and absolutely nothing has held my attention until this. I'd never heard of Rosalind James (which now makes me wonder how I haven't) but when I read the synopsis, I decided NOT to read the reviews and take a chance. I'm so glad I did. Reviews on Amazon have become untrustworthy. I couldn't put Carry Me Home down! I bought both the Kindle and Audible versions and I must say, the duel audible narrators did an amazing job.
Cal, the cowboy, has made me want to pack up my bags and move to Paradise, Idaho right this second. I want a cowboy so bad, lol! Cal's southern drawl, home-town-boy attitude and humor were so enchanting, and Zoe's quick wit and down-to-earth personality, even with her high education, was absolutely endearing. Cal and Zoe's relationship building was fascinating as well. No love at first sight/insta-love here, which was a nice change. Their banter had me actually laughing aloud and smiling broadly on numerous occasions, which is not normal for me. My husband - the reason I have to keep my cowboy love affair fictional - gave me a few curious glances. The, erm, down and dirty business could have happened a little sooner, or maybe a little more for my taste, but...now that I think about it, had there been more down and dirty, I might not feel as satisfied as I do.
Goodness, it's been so long since a book has given me such feels. The suspense was actually suspenseful! The secondary characters - from the victim, to Zoe's best friend, to Cal's family - were intertwined and fleshed out so well, I felt like I actually knew them personally. I have nothing but love for this book, and I saw that there is going to be a second book (already pre-ordered), hopefully about Rochelle, the best friend, or Luke, Cal's younger brother. Or maybe both together, wink wink.
Goodness, I'm so happy right now. I think I need to reread this to get it out of my system.

Perfect mix of romance and suspense

Loved this book and especially the right mix of suspense with romance. Cal and Zoe told their sides through alternating POV's which I always like and helps me connect more to the characters. I wouldn't say they had alot of ups/downs but this story had more suspense that made the pages fly by. I actually found Cal more of a romantic than Zoe which I believe was on purpose and he just melted my heart at times. The suspense side of the story kept me on my toes and the author even put "the bad guy's" POV into the story which had me holding my breath to see what would happen. The ending was just right and the epilogue was perfect for these two characters! Can't wait to read the next one.

If this book was a movie it would have you sitting on the edge of your seat. Heart stopping suspense, swoon worthy romance and a story you will definitely get lost in. Five stars all the way.
