A good, but fast, overview

I'm using this along with Exercises for Programmers: 57 Challenges to Develop Your Coding Skills to relearn some skills that have grown very rusty. This book does a good job of covering the core features of C++. I don't know how useful it would be to someone with no programming back ground — I learned the basics of C++ back around the turn of the millennium (before that I'd used Atari Basic and Pascal, and since I've been doing a lot with Java), and basically wanted a review to remind me of how C++ syntax differed from Java (which is a lot like simplified C++). I hope having this as a refresher and convenient reference will help me work through some practice programs and relearn this great language. Personally, I suspect the first 3/4 of the book would be ease for anyone to follow, though the last few chapter, where object oriented programming is covered, might go too fast for a beginner. Of course, this alone will not make you a "pro" — that will require more advanced texts on C++ specifically, and understanding of algorithms and of object oriented design (design patterns, etc.), and most of all practice as programming is a skill — but this should give a good starting point.
